On Tuesday November 3rd Aisling Byrne from the Arts Council met with the Art Teachers Ms Marie Farrington and Mr Rory Guerin to look at what projects the funding would be used for within the school. Ms Byrne in conjunction with the art teachers stressed it was important for arts project to be student led. It is hoped that in the coming year an arts project will be developed using the ideas of the students to enhance the school environment. Ms Farrington said 'it is a really fantastic opportunity for the students and the school ". The funding was awarded through a highly competitive national selection process and is designed to support schools in engaging with their wider community and reinforcing the impact of creativity on student learning, development and student well-being. The school will receive two years of structured mentorship from an Arts Council advisor to develop a creative visual arts project in Confey from 2020-2022, giving students a central role in all phases of the creative process. A big thank you to Ms Farrington and Mr Guerin who were instrumental in securing the grant for the school. It is envisaged that this grant will allow students pursue creative projects in the coming year that will really enhance their school and local community. During this time of Covid 19 the arts can create a great sense of calm and well being.
