Hospice Coffee Morning with a twist came to Confey College on Tuesday 20th October! First year students were treated to bagged and wrapped goodies and drinks kindly sponsored by John Staunton of Super Value, Riverforest and organised by the Transition Year Students. Three TY students, Melissa Hagerty, Ben Hourihane and Ella Wiseman took care to sanitise all items for 170 first years the week before. The goodie bags were distributed throughout the day on Tuesday and students were also treated to a range of entertainment from Piano recitals by Anna Crowe to Bingo with Tim Mullaney and Conor O’Sullivan. Presentations, on the work of St. Brigid’s Hospice in Newbridge, were given by TY students Evelyn Farrel, Aisling McCleane,Sam MacGeown, Killian Gormley, Roisin Quill and Kevin Gormley. Behind the scenes, John Paul Balfe and James Flanagan organised the envelopes for collection. Each TY and First Year brought in €2 to help raise funds for St. Brigids which is a charity close to the heart of Confey College.
Each year for the past 15 years we have had the honour of having Dr. Ena Hanlon and Carmel Burke speak to our TYs in person about the work of the Hospice, as this was not possible this year Ms. Reynolds organised to film their presentation and this was shown to students in classes. The students raised a total of 509 euro for the local hospice. Carmel McCarthy who works with the hospice said 'these are vital funds at a very difficult time and she thanked the Confey students for their continued support and efforts".It is wonderful for us to have this connection with the Hospice and to be able to raise awareness and funds at this difficult time.
Organised by Ms. Power and Ms. O’Connor. Thanks to all involved.
